This week KCOR has been Spotlighting Independent Artists. The indie artists are the future of the music industry.  Please support them by purchasing their music.  Great idea for Christmas gifts too.  Here is a sample of some of the Independent Artists featured this week.

KCOR UK Programs Recognized!

Kansas City Online Radio receives a load of great comments praising the station, one described it as ‘the Internet’s premier 24/7 free blues radio station’.

The station is, therefore, particularly please to announce that amongst its very varied roster of blues ‘DJs’ from around the world, are a number from the UK who have featured prominently in recent awards announcements.

In September, the Independent Blues Broadcaster category in the British Blues Awards 2012 was won by Gary Grainger (The Blues Show with Gary Grainger) with Dave Raven (Raven ‘n’ Blues) being the second runner up. Also nominated in this category were Ashwyn Smyth (Digital Blues), Bob & Norm (The Blues Show with Bob & Norm) and Martin Clarke (The Blues Session, a regular feature on KCOR until recently and returning soon – we hope!). So five of the top seven independent blues shows from the UK are on KCOR!

In the latest edition (December/January) of Blues Matters!, the leading specialist blues magazine in the UK, the results of their Writers’ Poll for 2012 are published and in Best Blues Radio Show/Station (UK) category Gary Grainger came third with Ashwyn Smyth and Martin Clarke also being recognised. So 50% of those named in a category that was won by BBC Radio 2’s Paul Jones are on KCOR!

Troy Schell, the Owner of KCOR, said ‘ Its great that KCOR has on it’s schedule so many of the UK DJs who are recognised as being at the top of their game by both the British Blues Awards and Blues Matters! Our thanks and congratulations go to them and this serves to confirm that the KCOR team includes many of the top presenters from around the world, all dedicated to bringing the best of the blues to our wonderful listeners.’

Smooth Down Under

Smooth Down Under, based in Branson, MO, is comprised of 3 musicians from different stomping grounds in the U.S., united by the blues. Recently, with shows in K.C., Mo., and Lake of the Ozarks, they are expanding their fanbase even further. The first thing that struck me upon listening was the excellent, tight guitar work. From originals to classics by Jimi and Stevie, the guitar, vocals, bass and drums are completely in sync on every single track. Richard Lee Wilson, the newest member of the band, owns on guitar and lead vocals. His powerful voice is gravally when appropriate, and soothing on other songs. Steve “Smooth Thunder” Cole is on bass, wailing alongside the guitar work for a tight, clean, fully enjoyable final product. On drums, Eric Sokol recently moved back from L.A., bringing his perfect cadance with him. If you love good, honest blues backed by serious talent, Smooth Down Under is certainly your cup of tea. The band is available for nightclubs, private events, and much more. Check them out today at www.reverbnation.com/smoothdownunder
